black & blue berry pie

Ingredients
- CRUST
- 4 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 3/4 cups cold shortening
- 1/2 cup cold water
- 1 large egg
- 1 tablespoon white vinegar
- FILLING
- 4 cups fresh or frozen black berries (do not thaw)
- 4 cups fresh or frozen blue berries (do not thaw)
- 2 cups granulated sugar
- 1/2 cup all purpose flour
- - half and half
How To Make black & blue berry pie

Step 1Crust: In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar and salt; cut in the shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs.

Step 2In a small bowl, combine the water, egg and vinegar; stir into the dry ingredients just until moistened. Form into a roll. Cover and refrigerate for 1 hour.

Step 3On a floured surface, roll 2/3 of the dough out to an 18x14" rectangle. Carefully place onto the bottom and up the sides of a 13x9x2" glass baking dish.

Step 4Filling: Combine berries, sugar and flour. Pour into crust.

Step 5Use the remaining crust to make lattice strips, place over filling. Brush pastry with half and half.

Step 6Bake in a 400 degree oven for 15 minutes, then reduce the heat to 350 degrees and bake for another hour or until filling is bubbly. Cool completely. Store in refrigerator.
