Combine cornstarch, sugar, & salt. Stir in milk. Cook over medium heat until thick & boils, stirring constantly.
Cook 2 minutes, remove from heat.
Add a little hot mixture to egg yolks, return to hot mixture & cook 1 minute longer.
Stir in butter & vanilla. Cool.
Arrange banana slices in pie shell.
Pour cooled filling over bananas.
