Even though you don't use a whole lot of apples in the dish, you feel like you are eating seven or eight apples in one piece.

  • 4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 c
  • 4
    egg yolks
  • 2 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 10 Tbsp
    cold water
  • 7 c
    finely chopped, peeled apples
  • 2 c
  • 1/4 c
    all-purpose flour
  • 2 tsp
    ground cinnamon
  • 1 dash(es)
    ground nutmeg

How to Make Apple Pie Bars


  1. CRUST:
    In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, salt, and baking powder. Cut in shortening until mixture resembles course crumbs.
  2. In a small bowl, whisk egg yolks, lemon juice, and water; gradually add to flour mixture, tossing with a fork until dough forms a ball. Divide in half. Chill for 30 minutes.
  3. Roll out one portion of dough between two large sheets of waxed paper into a 17" X 12" rectangle. Transfer to baking pan.
    In a large bowl, toss the apples, sugar, flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg; spread over crust.
  5. Roll out remaining dough and add as top crust. Bake at 375* for 45-50 minutes or until golden brown. Cool on a wire rack.
