My husband's all time favorite dessert. He likes his pie with a slice of sharp cheddar cheese and a scoop of vanilla ice cream. There is an old Pennsylvania Dutch saying that I embroidered in a sampler years ago that says--An apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze.

Ingredients

  • - double pie crust
  • 1/4 cup sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 2 tablespoons flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 6-7 cups sliced apples (i like northern spys when i can find them, or granny smith)
  • 2-3 tablespoons water

How To Make apple pie

  • Step 1
    Place bottom crust into pie plate.
  • Step 2
    Mix pie filling ingredients together except for the butter. Pour into pie crust. Dot with butter. Top with remaining crust. Cut slits for venting and bake at 425-degrees for 40-50 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Add some cheese and get a squeeze.
