I found this recipe in a magazine years ago when I was a newlywed. I always have to make two pies so my son and daughter can both take leftovers home.I like to use light brown sugar but in this picture the pie was made with dark brown sugar. May use white sugar in place of brown throughout recipe, if desired.
1Preheat oven to 375F. Place peeled, cored and sliced apples in large bowl. Squeeze juice of 1/8 lemon over apples.
2In separate bowl combine dry ingredients. Pour dry ingredients over apples and stir/toss to coat. Place coated apples slices in pie shell.
3Top with Crumb Topping. Combine 1/3 cup brown or white sugar, 3/4 cups flour and 1/3 cup butter (6 tablespoons) until it resembles coarse crumbs. Crumble mixture over pie. Cover edges of pie crust with foil to prevent burning. Bake for approximately 45 minutes or until done. Cool on wire rack.
Alternate Crumb topping recipe: 2/3 cup all-purpose flour, 1/2 cup sugar and 1/4 cup butter.
