- CRUST
- 2 3/4 cups sifted all purpose flour
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup butter
- 2 to 3 tablespoons cold water
- FILLING
- 4 - tart apples
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/4 to 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 dash ground nutmeg
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts
- 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
- 1 - egg, beaten for brushing pie

How To Make all-american apple pie

Step 1Preheat oven to 375 degrees F to 400 degrees F

Step 2For crust, combine flour, shortening, salt and butter with pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse crumbs.

Step 3Gradually stir in water, a little at a time to form a dough.

Step 4Divide pastry in half.

Step 5Form each half to a flat round.

Step 6Wrap in waxed paper or plastic wrap.

Step 7Chill.

Step 8For filling, peel apples and cut into wedges.

Step 9Combine sugars, cinnamon and nutmeg.

Step 10Roll out half of pastry.

Step 11Fit into a 9-inch pie pan.

Step 12Place half the apples in pan.

Step 13Sprinkle with sugar.
