This recipe was the Grand Prize Winner in a 1967 bake-off. Although it uses simple, inexpensive ingredients, the method is unique and really fun to make. Step back in time with me to 1967 and see how fun it is to make something "old" "new" again!

Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup butter
  • 3/4 cup flour
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar, lightly packed
  • 1/8 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped walnuts
  • 3/4 cup cold milk
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • 1 tablespoon grated orange peel
  • 1 box 4 serving size instant vanilla pudding
  • 1/2 cup orange marmalade
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 1/2 cup mandarin orange segments, well drained

How To Make 1967 grand prize mandarin dream pie

  • Step 1
Melt butter in a skillet over low heat. Add flour, sugar, ginger and walnuts; blend well. Cook over low heat until crumbs are toasted and golden brown, 4-6 minutes. Reserve 1/4 c. of crumb mixture for garnish. Press remainder immediately onto bottom and sides of 8" pie plate.
  • Step 2
In small mixing bowl, blend milk, sour cream, orange peel and pudding mix at low speed. Mix at high speed about 30 seconds or until thickened. Do not over mix.
  • Step 3
Pour into crumb crust and chill.
  • Step 4
Heat orange marmalade with water, stirring constantly until marmalade melts. Arrange orange segments decoratively on pie and spoon marmalade glaze over the top. Sprinkle reserved crumbs over orange segments. Chill until set.
