My mother had asked for me to make a tiramisu for her birthday cake one year and now it has become a tradition.

This is the most fabulous dessert and so very much worth the effort to prepare it!

It's easier than you think and the wow factor is off the charts!

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

  • 6 large
    egg yolks
  • 3/4 c
    granulated sugar
  • 2/3 c
    milk
  • 1 1/4 c
    heavy cream
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 lb
    mascarpone cheese
  • 1/4 c
    strong brewed coffee, room temperature
  • 2 Tbsp
    rum
  • 2 pkg
    ladyfingers (3 oz. each)
  • 1 Tbsp
    unsweetened cocoa

How to Make Tiramisu

Step-by-Step

  1. In a medium saucepan, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until well blended. Whisk in milk and cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until mixture comes to a boil. Boil gently for 1 minute, remove from heat and allow to cool slightly. Cover tightly and chill in refrigerator for 1 hour.

In a medium bowl, beat cream with vanilla until stiff peaks form. Whisk mascarpone into yolk mixture until smooth.

In a small bowl, combine coffee with rum. Split ladyfingers in half lengthwise and brush with coffee/rum mixture.

Arrange half of soaked ladyfingers in the bottom of a 11 x 7 inch dish. Spread half of the mascarpone mixture over ladyfingers, then spread half of the whipped cream. Repeat layers (ladyfingers/ mascarpone mixture/whipped cream). Sprinkle with cocoa.

Cover and refrigerate 4-6 hours until set.

    **Dish WILL be full! :-)
