Ingredients For orange walnut date bars

1 cunsifted flour

1/2 tspbaking soda

1/2 tspcinnamon

1/4 tspsalt

1/4 tspnutmeg

1/3 csoft margarine
-
3/4 clight brown sugar, packed

1egg
-
1 Tbspgrated orange rind
-
2 Tbsporange juice
-
1/2 cchopped pitted dates
-
3/4 ccoarsely chopped walnuts
- ORANGE BUTTER FROSTING

1/4 csoft margarine
-
1 tspgrated orange rind
-
1egg yolk
-
1/2 tspvanilla extract
-
2 cconfectioners' sugar
-
2 tsporange juice
How To Make orange walnut date bars

1Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Sift together the flour, baking soda, cinnamon, salt and nutmeg and set aside.

2In a large bowl, put the margarine and brown sugar and beat with mixer until light and fluffy and then beat in egg, orange rind and orange juice. Add in flour mixture and mix with mixer until smooth and then b eat in dates and walnuts.

3Spread evenly in a greased and floured 11 x 7 baking pan and bake for 25-30 minutes or until browned.

4ORANGE BUTTER FROSTNG: Cream the margarine and add the orange rind, egg yolk, vanilla and beat until well blended. Gradually add 2 cups of confectioners' sugar and beat well. Mix in 2 tsp. orange juice or enough to make of spreading consistency.
