This japanese dessert is made with the powdered agar-agar. Kanten is a regular dessert on the New Years Menu and is delicious and healthy.

  • 2 tsp
    kanten (agar-agar) powder
  • 1 1/4 c
    water
  • 3 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1 1/4 c
    orange juice
  • 1
    orange, peeled and sectioned

How to Make ORANGE KANTEN (JAPANESE DESSERT)

Step-by-Step

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine water and kanten powder on medium-heat and bring to a boil to dissolve the powder, stirring well.
  2. Turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 5 minutes, add in the sugar and turn off the heat.
  3. Add in the orange juice and stir well.
  4. Place orange slices in individual jelly molds or glass bowls and pour the jelly mixture over the orange slices.
  5. Refrigerate until set.
