This japanese dessert is made with the powdered agar-agar. Kanten is a regular dessert on the New Years Menu and is delicious and healthy.

Ingredients

  • 2 teaspoons kanten (agar-agar) powder
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 3 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups orange juice
  • 1 - orange, peeled and sectioned

How To Make orange kanten (japanese dessert)

  • Step 1
    In a medium saucepan, combine water and kanten powder on medium-heat and bring to a boil to dissolve the powder, stirring well.
  • Step 2
    Turn the heat down to low and simmer for about 5 minutes, add in the sugar and turn off the heat.
  • Step 3
    Add in the orange juice and stir well.
  • Step 4
    Place orange slices in individual jelly molds or glass bowls and pour the jelly mixture over the orange slices.
  • Step 5
    Refrigerate until set.
