This is a great alternative to apple pie. Serve warm with whipped cream or ala mode with your favorite ice cream.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups thinly sliced apples, cored and peeled
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup rolled oats
  • 1 cup light brown sugar, packed
  • 3/4 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
  • 1 dash salt
  • 1/2 cup butter or margerine, softened
  • 1 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped

How To Make nutty apple crisp

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350°F.
  • Step 2
    Toss apples with lemon juice and water in a shallow 2-quart baking dish.
  • Step 3
    In a large mixing bowl, combine flour, oats, brown sugar, nutmeg, and salt; mix to blend throughly.
  • Step 4
    Cut in butter or margarine until mixture resembles coarse crumbs; mix in walnuts.
  • Step 5
    Crumble over apples to cover completely.
  • Step 6
    Bake for 40-45 minutes until top is lightly browned.
  • Step 7
    Serve warm or at room temperature.
