My husband and I have been married for almost 10 years. He grew up in a Puerto Rican household and has always been big into dessert that his family has made. One of those desserts is what he calls my famous flan. I mastered it so he can always have a memory of childhood.

Ingredients

  • 1 can Eagle Brand condensed milk
  • 1 can Carnation evaporated milk
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/2 packages Philadelphia cream cheese
  • 1 1/2 cups white sugar

How To Make mrs garcia's husbands favorite flan

  • Step 1
Pre-heat oven to 350° (wash can lids). Get a pan fill with water once oven is preheated for inside oven. Makes putting flan pan in easier.
  • Step 2
In a big bowl or blender, add the block and half of softened room temperature cream cheese. Mix with a hand mixer or blend a little bit. When softened, add full cans of evaporated milk and condensed milk to either the bowl or blender.
  • Step 3
As you mix, add the vanilla extract and one full egg at a time.
  • Step 4
Once blended or mixed, grab a spare bowl and sifter and sift into the second bowl. Clean the first bowl before you sift into the original bowl. Repeat if needed.
  • Step 5
Grab a saucepan, on medium heat, add the 1 1/2 cups of sugar. Add a few drops of water and let the heat do the rest. You will notice bubbling and melting of sugar. Mix once the sugar is completely melted. You want it to be an amber color. Put into flan pan and you move sugar syrup around (don't get on skin its piping hot) add the flan mixture to flan pan, then add to the pan bath in oven. Check after 1hr and keep checking after 15 minutes some ovens cook faster. Once it comes out clean its done. Don't over cook if there is air pockets its over cooked.
  • Step 6
Once done, take out the pan with water and let the flan sit on bath for 1 hour before you flip it into a big dish or cake holder. Cool for 12 hrs up to 24 hrs and enjoy.
