How to Make Mother's Butter Roll
- Make a pastry with flour (self-rising), water and shortening. Work until stiff and roll into a sheet approximately the size of a pie crust. Sprinkle with 3/4-1 cup of sugar and 1 stick of real butter, chipped. Roll into roll and cut into approximately 2-inch rolls. Place rolls in baking dish.
- Cover with milk or water mixed with 1 1/2 teaspoons of vanilla.
- Bake in oven at 350 degrees until brown. If it becomes dry, add more milk or water. Serve while hot.
