This represents one in a series of recipes a good friend sent to me approximately 25 years ago. Back then before the internet and computers were popular, you swapped recipes via the mail.

  • 3 c
    mashed sweet potatoes (4 to six large ones)
  • 1/2 c
    half and half
  • 1 c
    sugar (white)
  • 2
    eggs (well beaten)
  • 1 tsp
  • 1 dash(es)
  • 1 stick
    butter or oleo

How to Make Mary's Sweet Potato Casserole


  1. Boil potatoes until tender and drain well. Mix all ingredients and put in baking dish
  2. For the topping: Melt 2 1/2 tablespoons butter or oleo. Combine 1/4 cup flour and 1/2 cup brown sugar. Add 1/2 cup pecans (omit if you prefer) plus 2 tablespoons water. Pour topping over casserole mixture.
  3. Bake for 25 to 30 minutes at 350 degrees in an uncovered dish.
