Ingredients

4 slice
bread
1 c
milk
3 large
eggs
1/2 c
sugar
1 stick
butter
1 c
sifted flour
1 1/2 Tbsp
cocoa (optional)
1/2 c
dried fruit
2 tsp
vanilla extract
1 tsp
soda bicarbonate

WHISKEY CREAM SAUCE

1 c
heavy cream
3 Tbsp
maple syrup
2 Tbsp
golden syrup
2 tsp
whiskey

How to Make Mama's Steamed Bread Pudding

Step-by-Step

  • 1Soak the slices of bread(cut up into small pieces) in milk & set aside
  • 2Then cream the butter & sugar until light & fluffy, then add eggs and cream till all are mixed in.
  • 3Now add the soaked bread(reserve the milk) & add cocoa(optional) & sifted flour. If the mixture is too dry add a little more of the milk. The batter should be like cake batter.
  • 4Add fruits like raisins(Mama always added raisins), cranberry, or any other dried fruits. Add soda bicarb & Vanilla & mix all until well mixed.
  • 5Then pour it into a well greased pan & steam for about 30 mins or until the skewer comes out clean.
  • 6This can be eater warm with some whiskey cream sauce.
  • 7For the sauce, mix all the ingredients in a saucepan & heat & stir until it comes to a boil, then lower the heat & simmer for about 8-10 mins. Then take it off the heat & add in the whiskey....the amount is your preference.
