  • 4 slice
  • 1 c
  • 3 large
  • 1/2 c
  • 1 stick
  • 1 c
    sifted flour
  • 1 1/2 Tbsp
    cocoa (optional)
  • 1/2 c
    dried fruit
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp
    soda bicarbonate

  • 1 c
    heavy cream
  • 3 Tbsp
    maple syrup
  • 2 Tbsp
    golden syrup
  • 2 tsp

How to Make Mama's Steamed Bread Pudding


  1. Soak the slices of bread(cut up into small pieces) in milk & set aside
  2. Then cream the butter & sugar until light & fluffy, then add eggs and cream till all are mixed in.
  3. Now add the soaked bread(reserve the milk) & add cocoa(optional) & sifted flour. If the mixture is too dry add a little more of the milk. The batter should be like cake batter.
  4. Add fruits like raisins(Mama always added raisins), cranberry, or any other dried fruits. Add soda bicarb & Vanilla & mix all until well mixed.
  5. Then pour it into a well greased pan & steam for about 30 mins or until the skewer comes out clean.
  6. This can be eater warm with some whiskey cream sauce.
  7. For the sauce, mix all the ingredients in a saucepan & heat & stir until it comes to a boil, then lower the heat & simmer for about 8-10 mins. Then take it off the heat & add in the whiskey....the amount is your preference.
