This a Cape Verdean fry bread made of corn flour. Its more like a fried pastry, somewhat like a donut, firm and sweet in flavor.

Ingredients
- 2 cups water
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup cornmeal,very fine
- 1 cup flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- - vegetable oil for frying
How To Make gufong

Step 1Start by putting the water and sugar in a pot and bringing it to a boil.

Step 2Once the mixture comes to a boil add the cornmeal stir until it comes together and then add the flour.

Step 3Add the salt and baking powder and keep mixing until everything is combined and firm.

Step 4Let mixture cool and will rise some from the baking powder. Once it has cooled take pieces of dough and roll them into small finger sized logs, on a floured surface.

Step 5Heat up your vegetable oil in a pan and when hot add gufong and fry until golden brown.

Step 6When browned, drain on a paper towel.
