I would always ask my Grandma to make me a pan of these bars for my birthday. I could always tell when she was cooking them, the house smelled wonderful when I walked in.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1 c
    water
  • 1 c
    raisins
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 tsp
    cloves
  • 1/4 tsp
    nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 2 c
    flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract

How to Make Grandma's Raisin Bars

Step-by-Step

  1. In a sauce pan, gently heat shortening, sugar, water, raisins, cinnamon, cloves, nutmeg, and salt for 3 minutes.
    Cool.
  2. Add flour, baking soda, baking powder and vanilla.
    Pour into a greased and lightly floured cookie sheet pan. Bake 350 for 20-25 minutes.
