Sandy Young

For almost 50 years, Frank asked me to make chocolate waffles. I really didn't have a recipe for them, and I was hesitant to just add chocolate syrup or cocoa to my Everyday Waffles recipe. I'm so glad I waited even though I had a grumpy hubby from time to time. When I wrote to the Young siblings, asking for any recipes of Grandma's that they might have, my brother-in-law Sam sent the one for chocolate waffles! Now I'm in good graces around here, and I do believe they're our daughter's favorite dessert. Well, except for Bonnie's Blueberry Pie.

How to Make Grandma's Chocolate Waffles

  • 1Sift sugar, flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt.
  • 2Stir in milk, oil, and eggs. As with regular waffles, don't over mix. Bake according to waffle baker directions.
  • 3We eat them warm with vanilla ice cream. Delicious! And they remind us of Grandma back in the good old days, when these were a real treat for the Young family in Maine and Washington State.
