- 2 - eggs or 4 yolks
- 2 tablespoons shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
- 3 1/2 cups flour

Step 1Beat eggs. Mix in shortening and sugar. Add buttermilk, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and flour.

Step 2Turn onto lightly floured board, knead 5 or 6 times. Cut with doughnut cutter.

Step 3Roll out gently 1/3" thick. Let rest for 20 minutes.

Step 4Fry in hot fat until brown. Turn as they rise to the surface and show a little color. Drain on absorbent paper.
