eggs or 4 yolks
2 Tbsp
shortening
1 c
sugar
3/4 c
buttermilk
2 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
baking soda
1/2 tsp
cinnamon
3 1/2 c
flour

How to Make Grandma Kiwacka's Doughnuts

Step-by-Step

  • 1Beat eggs. Mix in shortening and sugar. Add buttermilk, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and flour.
  • 2Turn onto lightly floured board, knead 5 or 6 times. Cut with doughnut cutter.
  • 3Roll out gently 1/3" thick. Let rest for 20 minutes.
  • 4Fry in hot fat until brown. Turn as they rise to the surface and show a little color. Drain on absorbent paper.
