Ingredients

  • 2
    eggs or 4 yolks
  • 2 Tbsp
    shortening
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 3/4 c
    buttermilk
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 3 1/2 c
    flour

How to Make Grandma Kiwacka's Doughnuts

Step-by-Step

  1. Beat eggs. Mix in shortening and sugar. Add buttermilk, baking powder, baking soda, salt, nutmeg, cinnamon, and flour.
  2. Turn onto lightly floured board, knead 5 or 6 times. Cut with doughnut cutter.
  3. Roll out gently 1/3" thick. Let rest for 20 minutes.
  4. Fry in hot fat until brown. Turn as they rise to the surface and show a little color. Drain on absorbent paper.
