Growing up my mother would buy Sarah Lee's Banana Cake in a foil pan from the freezer section. This recipe tastes just like it!

1/2 c
butter -softened
1 1/2 c
1 c
(8 oz) sour cream
1 tsp
vanilla extract
2 c
all-purpose flour
1 tsp
baking soda
1/4 tsp
medium, ripe bananas mashed = about 1 cup


1 pkg
8 oz softened cream cheese
1/2 c
butter softened
2 tsp
vanilla extract
3 3/4 - 4 c
powdered sugar

How to Make Frosted Banana Bars


  • 1In a mixing bowl, cream butter and sugar. Add eggs, sour cream, and vanilla extract. Combine flour, baking soda and salt; gradually add to the creamed mixture. Stire in bananas. Spread into a greased jelly roll pan - 15 x 10 x 1. Bake at 350 degrees for 20-25 minutes or until a tooth pick inserted near the center comes out clean. Cool on a rack.
  • 2For Frosting: in a mixing bowl, beat cream cheese, butter and vanilla extract. Gradually beat in enough powdered sugar to achieve desired consistency. When bars are cool frost. Store in refridgerator.
