  • 3 c
    powdered sugar
  • 2-3 Tbsp
    heavy cream
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract

How To Make easy homemade buttercream frosting

  • Gathering ingredients for the buttercream.
    Gather ingredients.
  • Softened butter in a mixing bowl.
    Place softened butter in a mixing bowl.
  • Mixing the butter until smooth.
    With the paddle attachment, beat butter until smooth.
  • Adding powdered sugar to the butter.
    Add 3 cups of powdered sugar.
  • Mixing the butter and powdered sugar until creamy.
    Beat on low until the butter and sugar are incorporated. Then, raise the speed to medium and mix for 2-3 minutes.
  • Vanilla added to the frosting.
    Add vanilla and 2 tablespoons of heavy cream.
  • Buttercream frosting mixed until the proper consistency.
    Beat on medium-high and check consistency. Add the additional tablespoon of cream if looking for a thinner buttercream.
  • Adding a little bit of gel food coloring to the buttercream.
    If tinting the buttercream, with a toothpick, add gel food coloring a little at a time.
  • Mixing in the gel food coloring.
    Stir well. Add more food coloring if the color is not intense enough.
