I've never known anyone to make these outside our family. I don't know why they're called Delta Bars. I do know that they are really good and are a crowd pleaser. I've seen one similar recipe but there are differences and I think this one is better ... of course.

Ingredients

  • DOUGH:
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 - egg yolk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 cups self rising flour
  • TOPPING:
  • 1 - egg white
  • 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 cup pecans, chopped

How To Make delta bars

  • Step 1
    For the dough: Cream shortening and sugar together; add egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Add flour and mix well.
  • Step 2
    Press evenly into a greased 13x9 inch baking pan (dough will spread thin).
  • Step 3
    For the topping: beat egg white until stiff peaks form. Fold in brown sugar. Sprinkle pecans over topping.
  • Step 4
    Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutesw or until dough is done.
  • Step 5
    Cool and cut into squares.
