delta bars
I've never known anyone to make these outside our family. I don't know why they're called Delta Bars. I do know that they are really good and are a crowd pleaser. I've seen one similar recipe but there are differences and I think this one is better ... of course.

Ingredients
- DOUGH:
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 large egg
- 1 - egg yolk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 1/4 cups self rising flour
- TOPPING:
- 1 - egg white
- 1 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 cup pecans, chopped
How To Make delta bars

Step 1For the dough: Cream shortening and sugar together; add egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Add flour and mix well.

Step 2Press evenly into a greased 13x9 inch baking pan (dough will spread thin).

Step 3For the topping: beat egg white until stiff peaks form. Fold in brown sugar. Sprinkle pecans over topping.

Step 4Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutesw or until dough is done.

Step 5Cool and cut into squares.
