I've never known anyone to make these outside our family. I don't know why they're called Delta Bars.

I do know that they are really good and are a crowd pleaser.

I've seen one similar recipe but there are differences and I think this one is better ... of course.

  • DOUGH:

  • 1/4 c
  • 1 c
  • 1 large
  • 1
    egg yolk
  • 1 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 1/4 c
    self rising flour

  • 1
    egg white
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 c
    pecans, chopped

How to Make Delta Bars


  1. For the dough: Cream shortening and sugar together; add egg, egg yolk and vanilla. Add flour and mix well.
  2. Press evenly into a greased 13x9 inch baking pan (dough will spread thin).
  3. For the topping: beat egg white until stiff peaks form. Fold in brown sugar. Sprinkle pecans over topping.
  4. Bake at 325 degrees for 25-30 minutesw or until dough is done.
  5. Cool and cut into squares.
