Ingredients For danish rolls

  • cream cheese pastry: 1 pkg. cream cheese, 8 oz
  • 1 cup butter, 2 sticks
  • 1 egg yolk
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/8 t. salt

How To Make danish rolls

    In large bowl of mixer, beat together butter and cream cheese until mixture is blended. Beat in the egg yolk. Add flour and salt and beat until mixed. Do not overbeat. Turn dough out onto floured wax paper. Form dough into a circle, wrap it in the wax paper and refrigerate it for several hours or overnight. Divide dough in fourths. Roll out one part at a time to measure a 10 inch square. Spread 1/4 of the Chocolate Quick (see recipe below), over the dough. Sprinkle with 1/4 of the chocolate chips. Roll up, jelly roll style to measure a 10 x 3 inch roll. Place seam side down on a 12 x 16 inch Teflon coated baking pan. Repeat with remaining 3 parts dough. Bake in preheated 350 oven for 30 minutes or until top is lightly browned. Cool in pan. Cut into slices and sprinkle tops generously with sifted powdered sugar. Makes 24 to 28 slices Chocolate Chip Filling for 4 rolls: 12 T. Nestlé's Chocolate Quik 6 oz. semisweet chocolate chips 1/2 cup chopped walnuts, optional Cinnamon Raisin Nut Filling for 4 rolls: 4 T. cinnamon sugar 3/4 cup yellow raisins 3/4 cup chopped walnuts Apricot Jam and Walnut Filling for 4 rolls: 1 cup apricot jam 1 cup chopped walnuts Divide filling ingredients between the 4 rolls. Note: These freeze beautifully, wrapped in double thicknesses of wax paper and then foil. Do not sprinkle with powdered sugar before freezing. Sprinkle with sugar after defrosted.
