Tired of the usual Christmas cookies? Try this old family recipe. I love it so much that my mom made it for my birthday instead of a cake. To further prove my love for it, I ate most of it before I remembered to take a picture for this post! I don’t feel bad about that at all!

Ingredients

  • PASTRY
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/4 pound butter
  • 1 tablespoon cold water
  • FILLING
  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 3 medium eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • FROSTING
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons milk

How To Make christiana kringle

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix all pastry ingredients until dough forms.
  • Step 2
Split the dough in half and form 2 long strips, approximately 3 inches wide and 1/2 inch thick on cookie sheets lined with foil or parchment paper.
  • Step 3
For filling: Add water and butter to a sauce pan. Heat on medium until butter is melted and the mixture begins to simmer. Do not boil the mixture.
  • Step 4
Remove from heat and blend the flour into the butter mixture until smooth.
  • Step 5
Add 3 eggs one at a time to the filling mixture. Beat the mixture after each egg is added until smooth. Stir in the vanilla extract.
  • Step 6
Spread the filling mixture over the pastries. Be careful to not let it spill over the sides.
  • Step 7
Bake 45 to 50 minutes until pastry is light golden brown.
  • Step 8
Cool the pastries until warm. Mix ingredients for frosting and spread on pastries. Finish with some colored sprinkles on top to give it a Christmas look!
