This is a favorite. Gramma New Year used to make any of her 10 grand kids their favorite dessert when they visited. This one was always waiting for Jo.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups sugar
  • 1 cup flour
  • 1 teaspoon soda
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • pinch salt
  • 2 - eggs well beating
  • 2 cups drained sour cherries - reserve juice
  • 1/2 cup nuts (optional)

How To Make cherry torte

  • Step 1
    Sift together the dry ingredients. In a small bowl mix the eggs, cheries and nuts. Add to the dry ingr. Pour into a 9 x 13 pan and bake for 35 to 40 min. in a 350 oven.
  • Step 2
    For the sauce...put 1 c cherry juice, 1 T. cornstarch, 1/4 c corn syrup and 1/4 sugar in a small saucepan and cook until thick. Serve the torte with whipped cream with the sauce drizzled over the top.
