I was finally cleaning out a basement cupboard and came across my mother's old, hand written recipe "notebook" This particular one was a favorite from my grandmothers collection. .

egg whites, room temperature
3/4 tsp
creme of tartar
2 c
2 c
broken soda crackers, chopped coarse not fine
1 c
pecans, chopped
2 pkg
prepared whipped topping (cool whip) the original recipe, called for whipped whip is a quick substitute.
1/2 tsp
2 c
cherry pie filling

How to Make Cherry Tort


  • 1Beat egg whites till frothy, add creme of tartar and beat into peaks. Add sugar gradually.
  • 2Fold in crackers and nut meats.
  • 3Spread into 9X11 pan.
    bake 25 minutes at 350 degrees.
  • 4Add vanilla to whipped cream.
  • 5When cake is cooled, cover with whip cream and chill 1 hour.
  • 6After 1 hour, top with cherries and refrigerate 4 to 6 hours or overnight
