Ingredients

  • 11/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    cinnamon
  • 1/2 c
    shortening
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 large
    egg
  • 1/2 c
    boiling water
  • 1 tsp
    instant coffee powder
  • 2 c
    butterscotch chips
  • 1/2 c
    chopped pecans
  • ·
    powdered sugar

How to Make Butterscotch Coffee Spice Bars

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350F. In a small bowl, combine flour, baking powder, baking soda, salt and cinnamon; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, combine shortening and brown sugar; beat until creamy. Add egg and beat well.
  3. In a measuring cup, combine water and coffee powder. Alternately blend flour mixture with dissolved coffee into butter mixture. Stir in butterscotch chips and pecans. Spread into a greased and floured 9 by 13 pan.
    Bake at 350F for 30-35 minutes. Cool completely. Sprinkle with powdered sugar. Cut into squares.
