These were a big hit at the last potluck. It's a different twist on the usual brownies.

  • 1/2 c
    butter, melted
  • 1 c
  • 1 tsp
  • 2
  • 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
  • 1/2 c
    chopped maraschino cherries
  • 1/3 c
    dark cocoa

  • 3 Tbsp
    butter (softened)
  • 3 Tbsp
    dark cocoa
  • 1 Tbsp
    light karo
  • 1/2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 c
    confectioners' sugar
  • 1-2 Tbsp

How to Make Black Forest Brownies


  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease square 9x9 pan.
  3. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together melted butter, sugar and vanilla.
  4. Add eggs and blend well.
  5. Combine flour, cocoa, baking powder, and salt, and gradually blend into egg mixture.
  6. Stir in cherries.
  7. Spread into prepared pan and bake 20-25 minutes or until brownies begin to pull away from sides of pan. Cool.
  8. To make buttercream frosting, in a small mixing bowl, cream butter, cocoa, Karo, and vanilla.
  9. Add confectioners' sugar and milk; beat to spreading consistency. Frost the brownies.
