While working at Public Storage in Gaithersburg, a greek tennant's mother brought me in a slice for a special treat. When I told her I enjoyed it so much she brought me her recipe. Her name was Evangelique Nomicos.

  • 1 lb
    phyllo dough
  • 1 lb
    melted butter
  • 1 lb
    chopped walnuts, for filling
  • 4 Tbsp
    sugar, for filling
  • 3/4 c
    breadcrumbs, for filling
  • 1 tsp
    cinnamon, for filling
  • 1 1/2 c
  • 1 c
  • 1 Tbsp
    lemon juice
  • 1 stick
  • ·
    lemon peel

How to Make Baklava


  1. Place 6 phyllos in baking pan, brushing each with melted butter. Put on some filling, then 2 phyllos brushed with butter. Continue until 6 remain for the top and you have used all the filling. Cut only halfway through in diamond patterns. Prepare syrup and spoon over baklava. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 hour to 1 hour and 15 minutes. Cool completely, cut completely.
