I've always wanted to make doughnuts but frying just was not my thing then I found this recipe and tried it out. My family just cannot keep out of the kitchen when I make them, they disappear as quickly as they come out of the oven. It's a wonderful treat to have with a coffee or hot chocolate.

prep time 18 Min
cook time 12 Min
method Bake
yield Yeilds about 2 dozen doughnuts

Ingredients

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour or bread flour
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 3 - eggs
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 1/2 cup apple sauce
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

How To Make baked doughnuts

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees F (200 degrees C). Lightly grease a baking sheet, or doughnut baking pan.
  • Step 2
In a medium bowl, mix sugar, baking powder, baking soda, nutmeg, cloves, cinnamon and flour. Mix buttermilk, eggs, honey and butter and apple sauce in a separate medium bowl, and stir into the dry ingredients. Spoon the mixture onto the prepared pan in doughnut shapes. I highly suggest you get a doughnut baking pan it is easier and less messy.
  • Step 3
Bake for 12 minutes in the preheated oven, until golden brown. Pop them out of pan and let cool on either wax paper or parchment paper. Yields about 2 dozen doughnuts
