This is a recipe that I've looked for for many years. My bese friends Mom made it when I was small. I looked for something like it but never found it. Today my friend found it in a box on a shelf. It is so good it rivals apple pie. This is posted in the same way it was written 1934, I find it interesting. I would guess the amount of milk would be about one cup.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups sliced apples, or amount desired
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons butter, cold
  • 3/4 to 1 c cups milk

How To Make apple johnny

  • Step 1
Place sliced apples in a 9 inch round cake pan.
  • Step 2
Combine flour and baking powder and cut in butter. Add enough milk to make a dough that can be spread over apples. Could add a tablespoon of sugar to dough if a sweeter dough is desired.
  • Step 3
Bake at 375 degrees until apples are done and top is golden brown. Immediately invert on serving plate and press as much brown sugar over apples as possible. Sprinkle with cinnamon.Pour over melted butter (about 2 tablespoons). To serve pour milk or cream over it. Yummy..
