I made these for a family gathering and they were a favorite, especially served warm with vanilla ice cream.

2 c
sugar
2 c
water
1/4 tsp
cinnamon
1/4 tsp
nutmeg
1/4 c
butter
6
apples
1 box
pillsbury pie crusts (2 in a box)
extra butter, sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg to sprinkle on apples.

How to Make Apple Dumplings

Step-by-Step

  • 1Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg in a saucepan; add butter. Heat until sugar is dissolved and butter is melted, to make syrup. Pare and core apples; cut into fourths, chopped into small pieces, or sliced. (I prefer my apples chopped into small pieces.)
  • 2Roll pie crusts until very thin; cut into 5-inch squares. Arrange apples on each square; sprinkle generously with additional sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; dot with additional butter. Fold corners to center; pinch edges together. Place in greased baking pan. Pour syrup over all the dumplings.
  • 3Bake in preheated 375-degree oven for 35 minutes.
