apple dumplings
I made these for a family gathering and they were a favorite, especially served warm with vanilla ice cream.

Ingredients
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups water
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 cup butter

How To Make apple dumplings
-
Step 1Combine sugar, water, cinnamon and nutmeg in a saucepan; add butter. Heat until sugar is dissolved and butter is melted, to make syrup. Pare and core apples; cut into fourths, chopped into small pieces, or sliced. (I prefer my apples chopped into small pieces.)
-
Step 2Roll pie crusts until very thin; cut into 5-inch squares. Arrange apples on each square; sprinkle generously with additional sugar, cinnamon and nutmeg; dot with additional butter. Fold corners to center; pinch edges together. Place in greased baking pan. Pour syrup over all the dumplings.
-
Step 3Bake in preheated 375-degree oven for 35 minutes.
