apple apple doughnuts

I found this recipe handwritten in my recipe collection,I made them a while back but can't remember where the recipe came from. I added apples to the recipe,it originally had only applesauce. You can shake the cooked doughnuts with powdered or granulated sugar,but I refer the glaze.

- - 4 c all purpose flour
- - 1/2 c sugar
- - 1/2 c brown sugar
- - 3 t. baking powder
- - 1 t. baking soda
- - 1 t. salt
- - 1/2 t. cinnamon
- - 1/2 t. nutmeg
- - 1 c apples,shredded
- - 1 c applesauce
- - 1/2 c buttermilk
- - 1/4 c oil
- - 2 t. vanilla
- - 2 eggs
- - oil for deep frying
- - powdered sugar glaze

Step 1Combine dry ingredients. In a large bowl,combine applesauce,buttermilk,oil,vanilla and eggs. Stir apples into dry ingredients,mix well. Add liquid ingredients to dry ingredients stirring just until dry ingredients are moistened. Chill at least 30 minutes makes dough easier to handle. Heat oil to 375 degrees. On well floured surface,toss dough until no longer sticky. Roll half the dough to 1/2 inch thickness,cut with floured doughnut cutter. Cook in hot oil 1-1/2 minutes on each side . Drain on paper. Drizzle with glaze. Cook remaining dough.
