Bread pudding is my favorite dessert and since I'm from Pennsylvania, I value Amish cooking.

2 c
whole milk or thin cream
1/4 c
2/3 to 1 c
sugar (white or brown, i use white)
2 tsp
1/4 tsp
1 tsp
3 c
bread, torn into small pieces
1/2 c
raisins, optional

How to Make Amish Bread Pudding


  • 1In a medium saucepan, heat milk until film forms over top. Add butter and stir until butter melts. Cool to lukewarm.
  • 2Beat together sugar, eggs, cinnamon, nutmeg and vanilla. Continue beating and gradually add milk mixture.
  • 3Place torn bread in a buttered 1 1/2 quart casserole dish. Sprinkle with raisins, if using. Pour milk mixture on top of bread. Bake at 350* for 50 minutes to one hour. Serve warm either plain or with whipped cream or caramel sauce.
