vanilla ice cream
This was a staple at every family gathering throughout the summer when I was growing up. All the kids in the family took turns cranking the old ice cream freezer, until it was too hard for us to turn any longer. Then the men folk took over. It was also a treat to get to scrape the freshly-made ice cream off the paddle for the first taste.
