  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 2 cups half and half
  • 2/3 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 ounce semi-sweet chocolate, chopped
  • 6 - eggs, well beaten
  • 1/2 cup whiskey

  • Step 1
    Bring cream and half and half to a simmer in a large heavy saucepan.
  • Step 2
    Add sugar and cocoa; stir until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat.
  • Step 3
    Add chocolate, stir until smooth.
  • Step 4
    Gradually whisk 1/2 cup chocolate mixture into eggs.
  • Step 5
    Return mixture to saucepan.
  • Step 6
    Stir over medium-low heat for 10-15 minutes or until mixture thickens and coats the back of a spoon.

    Strain into bowl.

    Cool mixture completely, stirring often.

    Stir whiskey into custard.
