My mom used to make this for me and my brothers as a special treat when we were kids.

Ingredients

1/2 cup cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup water
2 teaspoons vanilla

How To Make mom's old-fashioned chocolate sauce

Step 1

Mix the first four ingredients over medium heat. Once the mixture boils, boil for 3 minutes, stirring constantly. Remove from heat and add vanilla.

Step 2

Can serve hot or cold over ice cream. Other serving ideas: mix 1-2 tsp with cold milk for chocolate milk; mix 1-2 tsp with hot milk for hot chocolate; or use this as a sauce over cheesecake.
