This dessert comes from the my mother in laws side of the family, the Hafner's. It was enjoyed at family gatherings and I have attempted it several times with rave reviews from all who have tasted it! I love it because it has chocolate AND almond...who can beat that combination??!!

3 c
vanilla wafer crumbs
5 Tbsp
melted butter
1/2 c
butter, softened
2 c
powdered sugar
egg yolks, reserve whites
melted chocolate squares
1 tsp
almond flavoring
4 oz
toasted blanched almond slivers
2 qt
vanilla ice cream, softened

How to Make Hafner Dessert


  • 1Mix together the vanilla wafer crumbs and melted butter. Press 2 cups in the bottom of a 9X13 pan.
  • 2Cream together the softened butter, powdered sugar. Add egg yolks, and melted chocolate and almond flavoring.
  • 3Beat the egg whites until they are stiff. Fold into the chocolate mixture. Spread evenly over the crust in the pan.
  • 4Sprinkle toasted slivered almonds over mixture in the pan.
  • 5Carefully spread the softened ice cream over the pan. Sprinkle with remaining crumbs. Freeze for 2 hours or overnight.
