- In top of double boiler beat egg yolks and milk, add sugar and salt. Cook stirring constantly over hot NOT boiling water until thick enough to coat a metal spoon. Let cool. Add cream and vanilla. Freeze by putting in the container of the ice cream maker and using the following amount of ice and salt
- If you are using the old fashioned ice cream maker you would use 8 parts ice to 1 part rock salt. This makes 1 1/2 quarts.
