Ingredients
- 2 cups soft fine bread crumbs, (press down lightly in cup)
- 1/4 cup butter, melted, or margarine
- 5 - cooking apples
- 3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1/8 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/4 teaspoon allspice
- 1/4 cup orange juice, fresh
- 1 tablespoon grated orange rind
How To Make western apple betty

Step 1Heat oven to 375. Grease shallow pan.

Step 2Combine bread crumbs and melted butter; place 1/2 the mixture in bottom of pan.

Step 3Peel, core and thinly slice apples and arrange over crumbs.

Step 4Mix together sugar, salt and spices. Sprinkle over apples; top with remaining crumbs.

Step 5Pour orange juice over crumbs, sprinkle with rind.

Step 6Bake about 45 minutes or until apples are tender and crumbs are browned.

Step 7Serve hot with hard sauce.
