  • 2 large
    red grapefruit
  • 8 tsp
  • 2 Tbsp
    cold unsalted butter, cut in small pieces
  • 2 Tbsp
    dark brown sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 tsp
    ground allspice
  • 1 pinch

How to Make Texas Red Grapefruit Brulée


  1. Put rack in upper third of oven; preheat broiler to high.
  2. Cut each grapefruit in half and loosen each segment.
  3. Drizzle 2 teaspoons of rum over each half.
  4. In small bowl, combine butter, sugar, flour, allspice and salt. Pinch ingredients together into soft crumbs. Sprinkle crumbs over grapefruit halves.
  5. Place grapefruit halves on a broiler pan and broil until crumbs are lightly browned - about 5-7 minutes. Let cool slightly and serve.
