Ingredients
- FRUIT FILLING
- 1 1/2 to 2 pints berries (2-12 to 16 oz. bags, if using frozen)
- 2 tablespoons butter
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 1 apple, peeled and grated (honey crisp, granny smith, etc.)
- 1/3 to 1/2 cup applesauce, unsweetened
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
- dash cinnamon
- CRUMBLE TOPPING
- 4 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 5/8 cup flour
- 1/4 cup almond or other nut flour/meal
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/4 cup slivered almonds or other chopped nuts
How To Make summer berry crumble

Step 1FRUIT FILLING - In a medium saucepan, melt the butter and add the sugar. Stir in the grated apple and cook until apple starts to soften. Stir in the applesauce and berries and bring to a boil. Simmer for 5 minutes. Add vanilla and a sprinkle of cinnamon. Pour mixture into a 9-inch square baking dish that has been sprayed with PAM.

Step 2CRUMBLE TOPPING - Melt butter and stir in the sugar. Add flour, nut flour, and baking powder. Mix with a fork to soft crumbs. Sprinkle evenly over fruit topping and top with slivered almonds/chopped nuts. Bake at 375° for 35 minutes. Cool slightly before serving.

Step 3Note: Any berry, cherry or combination as well as stone fruits will work in this recipe. Fresh, frozen or a combination makes it easy to adapt..
