fresh peaches, peeled, pitted and sliced into thin wedges
1/4 c
1/4 c
brown sugar
1/4 tsp
ground cinnamon
1/8 tsp
ground nutmeg
1 tsp
lemon juice, fresh
2 tsp
corn starch


2 c
all purpose flour
1/2 c
1/2 c
brown sugar
2 tsp
baking powder
1 tsp
12 Tbsp
butter, unsalted, chilled and cut into small pieces
1/2 c
boiling water

How to Make Southern Peach Cobbler


  • 1preheat oven to 400 (if you are using a dark or glass pan 425 if you are using a light color pan).
  • 2in a large bowl, combine peaches, 1/4 cup sugar, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice and cornstarch.
  • 3toss to coat evenly and pour into a 2 quart baking dish. bake in preheated oven for 10 minutes.
  • 4meanwhile, in a large bowl, combine flour, sugars, baking powder and salt.
  • 5blend in butter with your fingertips or a pastry blender until mixture resembles coarse meal. stir in water until just combined.
  • 6remove peaches from oven and drop spoonfuls of topping over them.
  • 7sprinkle entire cobbler with the sugar. set your baking dish on a baking sheet (this cobbler can drip into the oven otherwise).
  • 8bake until topping is golden, about 30 minutes.
