Poaching pears looks fancy but is super easy and a great dessert for a heavy meal.

Ingredients

  • 4 ripe pears, peeled and slice the bottom so they sit flat
  • 1 tablespoon white miso
  • 1 tablespoon red miso
  • 1 medium lemon, zested and juiced
  • 1 tablespoon grated ginger
  • 2 tablespoons white sugar
  • 4 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 4 tablespoons mascarpone cheese

How To Make poached pear with lemon miso syrup and mascarpone

  • Step 1
    In a mixing bowl, combine both types of miso, lemon zest and juice, and ginger.
  • Step 2
    Add 2 cups of boiling water, mixing until the miso is melted.
  • Step 3
    Place the pears in a heavy pot. Pour the miso mixture over the pears.
  • Step 4
    Place over medium heat and cook 5 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Add the white sugar. Reduce the heat to low and poach for about an hour, until the pears are tender.
  • Step 6
    In a small saucepan take 1 cup of the poaching liquid and add it to the pan. Add in the brown sugar.
  • Step 7
    Heat for 15 minutes until it's sticky and thick like syrup.
  • Step 8
    Set the pear straight up.
  • Step 9
    Pour the syrup around the pear. Add 1 Tbsp of mascarpone cheese for serving.
