A warm and simply delicious dessert that will make your house smell wonderful! This crisp is different (and better, in my opinion!) because there are no oats in the topping. Use local, tree-ripened peaches for the best flavor (if possible). Serve by itself or with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream.

Ingredients

  • 1 tablespoon softened butter (for baking dish)
  • 10-12 large fresh ripe peaches
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons lemon juice
  • TOPPING:
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 egg (average size, not xl)
  • 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 stick salted butter, melted

How To Make peach crisp

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Butter a 9"x13" baking dish; set aside.
  • Step 2
Wash and peel peaches; remove pit and most of the red center; slice into large bowl.
  • Step 3
Add lemon juice and 1/2 cup sugar, tossing lightly to combine.
  • Step 4
Pour peaches into prepared baking dish.
  • Step 5
In a medium-sized mixing bowl, combine 1 cup flour, 1 cup sugar, 1 teaspoon baking powder, and 1/2 teaspoon salt.
  • Beaten egg blended into flour and sugar mixture for topping.
    Step 6
Add 1 beaten egg to the flour mixture and combine with a fork or pastry blender until it resembles very coarse cornmeal with lumps the size of large peas. (This takes some patience, but it is soooo worth it!)
  • Step 7
Pour peaches into the prepared dish and sprinkle evenly with flour mixture.
  • Step 8
In a small bowl, mix together 1/2 cup firmly packed dark brown sugar and 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon.
  • Step 9
Sprinkle evenly over the top of the flour mixture.
  • Step 10
    Drizzle evenly with melted butter.
  • Step 11
Bake at 350 degrees F for 1 hour.
  • Baked peach crisp.
    Step 12
Remove from oven and cool for at least15 minutes before serving. Refrigerate leftovers.
