This is a very moist cake and is good either warm or cold.I make this in the fall a lot when fresh apples are plenty. I serve this with fresh cream or a nice warm custard,Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups self rising flour
  • pinch salt
  • pinch - clove, ground
  • 1/2 cup butter (at room temp.)
  • 3-4 - granny smith apples
  • 1/2 cup fine sugar
  • 2 - eggs (beaten)
  • - a little milk to mix
  • - sugar to to sprinkle over

How To Make irish apple cake

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 375deg. Grease cake tin with some butter set aside.Sieve flour,salt and ground cloves into bowl.Rub in the butter till like fine bread crumbs.Peel your apples and core them slice very thinly then add them to the flour and butter mixture with the sugar.Mix in your beaten eggs along with milk to make a fairly stiff dough,I just eye ball it lol! turn into prepared tin and sprinkle the top with sugar.Bake in your oven for 30-40 mins.or till springy to the touch.Cool on wire rack,Serve with fresh cream. Enjoy! :)I use an 8inch cake tin.
