This is a recipe of my dearly departed mom's. I always liked it, especially since it has dates in it, which are a favorite of mine. It smells wonderful while baking. Serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or a dollop of whipped cream :)

Once, I wanted to make this and found I was out of dates. I rummaged around and found some pitted prunes and substituted them and the result was equally delicious :)

Ingredients

  • 4 c
    diced tart cooking apple, unpeeled (i use jonathan apples)
  • 1/2 c
    chopped, pitted dates
  • 1/2 c
    walnuts, chopped
  • 1 c
    sugar
  • 1/2 c
    all purpose flour, sifted
  • 2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1 large
    egg
  • 1 Tbsp
    butter, melted
  • 1 tsp
    cinnaimon, ground
  • 1/2 tsp
    freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp
    ginger powder
  • 2 tsp
    vanilla extract
  • 1 pinch
    kosher salt

How to Make HARVEST TIME DESSERT

Step-by-Step

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Spray a 13" x 9" pan with Pam.
  3. In a large bowl, combine all ingredients.
  4. Pour into your prepared pan.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes, let cool for 15 minutes.
  6. Serve with vanilla ice cream or whipped cream.
