grandma barb's caramelized apple crisp
This recipe came from my Grandma Barb, and it's the only apple crisp recipe I will make. The addition of a simple syrup over the top of the apples gives this special crisp a caramelized consistency that really makes it stand out.

Ingredients
- 9 baking apples, peeled, cored and cubed
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups quick oats
- 2 cups brown sugar
- 2 teaspoons cinnamon
- 3/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup butter or imperial margarine, melted (i use margarine)
- 2 cups karo syrup
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 4 tablespoons cornstarch
How To Make grandma barb's caramelized apple crisp

Step 1Mix flour, quick oats, brown sugar, cinnamon and salt in a medium bowl. Add melted butter and mix until crumbly.

Step 2Press 2/3 of mixture in bottom of a greased 9x13 pan or baking dish.

Step 3Layer cubed apples over the oat mixture.

Step 4In a medium saucepan, stir together Karo syrup, vanilla and cornstarch until well-combined. Cook over medium heat, stirring constantly, until it comes to a boil. Stir and cook another minute. Pour the heated syrup mixture over the apples in the baking dish.

Step 5Sprinkle the remaining topping mixture over the top.

Step 6Bake at 350 degrees for 60 minutes.
