~ cherry pie bars ~
Another of my favorite desserts that comes from my Gram. I added the addition of almonds and sugar on top. I'm sure there are many other recipes similar to this posted, but I figure you can never have too much of a good thing.:) Delicious with ice cream or alone. Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 cup butter, room temp
- 3 - eggs
- pinch - salt
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract or almond
- 2 cups flour
- 1 - 21 ounces can, cherry pie filling
- handful - sliced almonds - optional
How To Make ~ cherry pie bars ~

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degree F. Lightly grease a 9 x 13 baking dish. In a large bowl, cream sugar and butter until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. Add vanilla. Beat in flour and salt, until thoroughly blended.

Step 2Spread 1/2 of the batter into bottom of prepared dish. I use my offset knife for this. Could use floured fingers to spread. Spread cherries evenly over batter.

Step 3Add the remaining batter in dabs over the cherries. I then sprinkle with some sugar and a handful of sliced almonds.

Step 4Place in oven and bake for 40 - 45 minutes or until batter is cooked through.

Step 5Cool on rack , then when read to serve I cut into squares. Delicious with ice cream. Enjoy!
