How To Make fruit cobbler
-
1STEP 1 In a large bowl add either 2 cups of canned fruit, any kind and measure 3/4 cups of the juice from canned fruit OR you can use 3 cups fresh fruit, any kind such as cherries, peaches, berries etc. If using peaches, cut into slices.
-
2To the fruit add sugar (1 cup of sugar if using fresh fruit or only 1/4 cup of sugar if using canned fruit). Add flour with cinnamon mixed into it. Put everything in a 2 quart casserole.
-
3STEP 2 Time to make the SHORTCAKE! Start by sifting the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar together. Add 1 tablespoon of softened butter with 1/4 cup of shortening. Pour in 3/4 cup of whole milk. Knead gently for 1 minute or so until well blended. Pat or roll out dough into 1/2 inch thickness and fit over top of fruit. Prick with a fork for steam to escape. Brush top of dough with either an egg mixed with a little water or milk for browning. Optional: Lightly sprinkle top of dough with a cinnamon/sugar combination. Serve warm with ice cream or a whipped topping.
